Instructions
The head lice removal process works across three core steps:
1. Removal: Products designed to help loosen and remove lice and eggs from the hair and scalp.
2. Maintenance: Ongoing washing and combing to support continued removal during the cycle.
3. Protection: Daily spray and routine checks to help reduce the chance of re-infestation.
Following all three steps provides a comprehensive approach to managing head lice within your household. Please watch our video on the How To Apply page for a detailed guide on how to use each product correctly.

Established 2004
Who Are The Lice Doctors?
Company founder and professional hairdresser, Janine Heard, began helping families manage head lice in 2004, after working in the hair industry since 1985. What started as a small consultancy has grown into a trusted Sunshine Coast business supporting parents, schools and the community.
Over the years, Janine and her team have developed a simple, family-friendly approach to head lice care. Today, LiceDoctors provides guidance, in-salon support, and an Australian-made product range used by families across the country.
Using natural, gentle ingredients and an easy step-by-step method, the LiceDoctors approach helps families feel confident and supported when dealing with head lice.
FAQs
Do you need to re-apply the product after 7 days?
Most families find one thorough application of the LiceDoctors Hair & Scalp Oil is enough to manage the lice cycle when applied correctly and carefully combed through. A second application may be used if you feel more support is needed or if new lice appear due to external exposure at school or home.
Do I need to remove the eggs from the hair shaft?
Our Hair & Scalp Oil helps loosen the bond of eggs, making them easier to remove during combing. We recommend using a fine-tooth lice comb after applying the oil to help lift away eggs and residue.
Why are some eggs white and others black?
The white or clear eggs are hatched eggs –that is just the empty shell left. The dark eggs are the next cycle ready to hatch – they are dark because they have the body inside.
Is it true we need to treat all members of the family?
We recommend checking everyone in the household. Often more than one person may have early-stage lice that hasn’t been noticed yet. Treating or supporting all affected family members at the same time helps stop the cycle from continuing in the home.
Do I need to sterilise the house?
As lice can live for up to 24 hours away from their blood source (scalp) before they die of dehydration, you will need to:
- change sheets and pillowcases
- soak headwear and brushes in boiling water for 5 minutes
- cover fabric lounges, scatter cushions and the headrests of the car with sheets or towels only for the next 24 hours
- change your clothing immediately after the treatment
- scrub under your fingernails
What about the carpets?
It would be highly unlikely for an adult headlice to have dropped off onto the carpet and then make its way back to a scalp all before it dehydrates (within 24hrs) and dies.
Do you need head to head contact to get headlice?
No. Adult lice can transfer from head to head via static electricity of the hair, so you only have to be standing close to someone with headlice for them to transfer onto your hair.
I found lice in my son’s hair, but he showed no signs of having them- he wasn’t even itchy! Why, when my daughter was tearing her hair out?
Actually it is more common NOT to itch- you only itch if you are sensitive to the saliva of the lice!
Can I use conditioner alone to manage head lice?
Conditioner can help you check for lice and slow them down during combing, but it doesn’t provide full support for the lice cycle. Our Hair & Scalp Oil is designed to give more complete coverage, helping you work through eggs and lice more effectively with a comb.
Do we need to treat our pets?
No. Head lice only live on human hair and cannot survive on pets.
How long will the LiceDoctors process help before the kids may get lice again?
Our products support the full lice cycle present in the hair at the time of use. However, new lice can still be caught from school or close contact with others. We’ll guide you on prevention habits - such as regular comb checks, tying hair back, and using our preventative spray - to help reduce the chance of future infestations.
